The essentials at a glance

  • €12,000–25,000 for a standard bathroom6–8 m², fully renovated, depending on fittings
  • 2–3 weeks of constructionSchedule agreed in advance and kept
  • All trades, one contact personPlumbing, tiling, electrics, painting – coordinated by us
  • Accessible on requestPlanned per DIN 18040, grants from KfW and care insurance

A bathroom renovation fails more often on coordination than on craftsmanship: the tiler waits for the plumber, the electrician for the tiler, and you wait for everyone. That is why we run the whole project ourselves – with our own plumbers and fixed partner trades, a schedule you receive in advance and a fixed price that includes disposal.

What does the fixed price include?

  • Removal of the old bathroom and disposal of tiles, sanitary objects and rubble
  • Rough installation of water, wastewater and heating, including new pipework where necessary
  • Electrical work: lighting, sockets, mirror heating, if needed a new circuit
  • Screed, sealing (per DIN 18534) and levelling of the walls
  • Tiling of floor and walls, including large formats and walk-in showers
  • Installation of sanitary objects, fittings, shower glazing and accessories
  • Painting of ceilings and remaining wall areas
  • Joint inspection, function test and documentation

What does a bathroom renovation cost in Giessen?

from 12 k€Standard fittings, 6–8 m²
from 18 k€Comfort: walk-in shower, large tiles
from 25 k€Premium: design fittings, underfloor heating
2–3 wksConstruction time, complete renovation

The size of the room, the scope, the fittings level and the tiles determine the price. A walk-in shower, underfloor heating or moving the WC add to it; keeping the layout saves. After the on-site visit you get a fixed price – our bathroom calculator gives a first range beforehand.

What makes a bathroom accessible?

An accessible bathroom is not a hospital bathroom. A walk-in shower with a linear drain, non-slip tiles (R10/R11), a wheelchair-accessible washbasin, grab rails you only notice when you need them, enough movement space and glare-free lighting. We plan per DIN 18040 and build bathrooms that look modern today and still work in twenty years.

Funding: KfW grant of up to €6,250 for accessible conversions (programme 455-B, subject to available funds), up to €4,180 from the care insurance with a care level, and 20% of labour costs tax-deductible (§ 35a EStG, max. €1,200 per year). We tell you which applies to you.

Before you sign: four questions to settle

Settle these four questions before you accept any quote. Here are our honest answers – without naming other companies.

Who renovates bathrooms?

Four kinds of providers: the plumbing contractor who coordinates all trades, individual trades you coordinate yourself, bathroom studios and installation services from DIY stores.

Plumbing contractor with all tradesOne contact and one fixed price for plumbing, tiling, electrics and drywall.
Individual tradesOften cheaper per trade, but you coordinate dates, interfaces and warranty yourself.
Bathroom studioStrong on design and showroom; installation is often carried out by partner companies.
DIY-store installation serviceFor individual items such as a toilet or vanity unit – rarely suitable for a complete renovation.

What is a realistic price?

A standard bathroom of 6–8 m² costs €12,000 to €25,000 fully renovated; premium fittings with designer taps and underfloor heating from €25,000.

A complete renovation takes two to three weeks. For an accessible bathroom KfW grants of up to €6,250 are possible (programme 455-B, subject to available funds).

What should I look out for?

On five points:

  • A site visit with measurements before the quote – no prices based on photos alone.
  • A fixed price including removal, disposal, plumbing rough-in and all trades.
  • Waterproofing behind tiles and shower in line with the current standard (DIN 18534).
  • Check old supply and waste pipes and replace them in the same go if necessary.
  • Plan accessible options right away: walk-in shower, wider door, wall reinforcement for grab rails.

What should I steer clear of?

Three warning signs:

  • Lump-sum prices without a list of the included work.
  • New tiles over old pipes in bathrooms older than 25 years or with damp damage.
  • No fixed completion date – then every week of delay is your risk.
